Paul Cotton's work experience began in 2015 as a Branch Manager at College Works Painting, where they built a client base and managed a team of painters. In 2016, they worked as a Wildfire Fighter for the Government of British Columbia, performing firefighting duties and mentoring junior crew members. Starting in 2018, they worked at The University of British Columbia, first as a Research Assistant in the Cardiopulmonary Laboratory for Experimental and Applied Physiology, where they aided in research and data analysis, and later as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, facilitating laboratory sections and providing support to students. In 2021, they worked as a Bartender at JOEY Restaurant Group. Currently, they are working as a Data Analyst at DarkVision Technologies Inc.

Paul Cotton completed their Master's degree in Health and Exercise Science from The University of British Columbia from 2019 to 2022. Prior to that, they earned their Bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics from the same institution between 2016 and 2019.
