Searching for a strong, ethical, and purposeful organization with which to partner, David McDonald selected Dakota because of its respected reputation in the industry and an alignment in values of integrity, collaboration, and hard work. David’s primary responsibility is to design and manage equity strategies. His focus is equity growth with an emphasis on proprietary technologies, market positions and faster growing, smaller capitalized companies that tend to show great promise.
David’s background is rooted in institutional investment management in both hedge funds and long-only investment strategies. David was a principal and portfolio manager with Essex Investment Management in the 1990s and early 2000s where he ran a top-ranked global technology and telecommunications hedge fund. David has spent considerable time travelling and investing around the world, specifically as an early investor in emerging economies.
Prior to joining Dakota, David served as CEO and founder of Telic Capital Advisors, which was a vehicle intended to provide Trustee oversight and investment strategies for high-net-worth family trusts. David continues to run this strategy under the Dakota family of funds and will expand his offerings within Dakota.
David earned a BS in Finance from Salem State University in Massachusetts and obtained his MBA, Magna Cum Laude, from Babson College with an emphasis on Global Management and Entrepreneurship.
David lives on Boston’s North Shore, is married with two adult children, and serves as an adjunct Professor of Finance at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.
