Troy Smith has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Troy started their career in 1993 at US West Communications as a System Administrator and Database Administrator. Troy then worked as an Electronic Commerce Project Manager at Access Graphics, Inc. in 1996. In 1997, they served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, teaching system analysis and conceptual design. In 1998, they briefly worked as a Consultant - Senior Developer/Intranet Manager at PrimeStar, Inc. From 1996 to 2015, they held the position of Systems Engineer at CenturyLink (Qwest Communications), mainly focusing on the design and development of Operations Support Systems. In 2015, they joined CenturyLink as a Manager, Data Center Systems Architecture & Reporting. Currently, they are working at Cyxtera Technologies, where they have held various roles including Director, Operations Support Systems, Sr. Director, Operations Support Systems, and Vice President, IT Platforms.

Troy Smith attended the University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business from 1990 to 1994, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems. Later, from 2015 to 2017, they pursued a Masters of Information and Communication Technology at the University of Denver, focusing on Information Technology.
