Basirat Afinowi has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2006, they began their career as a Customer Support Administrator at Cambridgeshire Interpretation & Translation Agency (CINTRA). Basirat then joined Cambridgeshire County Council in 2007, first as a Data Officer and later as the CFA-IS Web Development Manager. In 2014, they transitioned to the Royal Society of Chemistry, where they served as a Project Manager for five years. From 2019 to 2021, Basirat worked at UIS at the University of Cambridge as a Project Manager. Basirat then became a Programme Manager - Reimagining Professional Services at the University of Cambridge in 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Project Manager at Cyted, and starting from 2023, they will take on the role of Head of Projects at the same company.

Basirat Afinowi's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Ibadan, which they obtained between 1998 and 2004.
