George Finney is an experienced cybersecurity professional currently serving as the Chief Information Security Officer for The University of Texas System since May 2024. Finney is also the CEO and Founder of Well Aware Security, a company focused on improving cybersecurity awareness through behavior change techniques. Previously, Finney held roles including Senior Fellow for the Zero Trust Initiative at CyberTheory and Chief Security Officer at Southern Methodist University, where responsibilities encompassed directing information and physical security programs. Finney has also contributed as an Adjunct Professor in Information Assurance and CyberSecurity at Southern Methodist University. Additional experience includes leadership positions in various organizations, including Palo Alto Networks FUEL User Group and several roles in network operations and engineering. Finney holds a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University and advanced degrees in Computer Science and Liberal Arts.
