Karen Gundy-Burlet is a seasoned aerospace professional with extensive experience in both research and leadership roles. Currently serving as the Director of NASA Aerospace Systems at Crown Consulting, Inc., since June 2018, Karen is responsible for fault management on the lunar Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER). Prior to this role, Karen worked at NASA-Ames Research Center from 1981 to June 2015 as a Research Scientist, leading the Common Avionics and Software Technologies (CAST) group and contributing to the Robust Software Engineering group, focusing on flight software quality engineering, propulsion system modeling for small satellites, and machine learning applications in model validation and verification. Educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Aerospace Sciences from Stanford University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
