Simon Bates has extensive experience in safety and security management within the sports and investigative sectors. Currently serving as Deputy Safety Officer at Crawley Town Football Club since August 2023, Simon has been with Sussex Cricket since March 2018, holding the roles of Matchday Safety Officer and Security Manager. Previously, Simon worked as Stand Manager at Fulham Football Club from August 2020 to April 2023, and from May 2018 to April 2023, served as Assessor/Trainer at QTSD, overseeing the assessment and training of stewards. Simon founded and managed ARTIFEX INVESTIGATIONS LIMITED from April 2016 to January 2023. Additional experience includes serving as a PCR2 Reviewer for the Diocese of Southwark from September 2020 to December 2021 and working as a Contract Investigator for Sussex Police from June 2016 to November 2017 on Operation Hydrant. Simon's policing career with Sussex Police spanned from September 1986 to April 2016, culminating in a role as Detective Sergeant with a focus on major crime. Education was completed at Cardinal Newman School, Hove, East Sussex from 1970 to 1978.
