Donald Carrigan received his undergraduate degree from the California Institute of Technology, doctoral degree from the University of California, San Francisco and performed post doctoral work in neurovirology at the same institution. He was an Assistant Professor in the Neurology Department at the University of California and later the University of Maryland. Dr. Carriganās research was supported through the NIH. In addition to his research and laboratory, Dr. Carrigan was a course lecturer in Virology. He later joined the Medical College of Wisconsin as an Associate Professor in Pathology and the Director of the Clinical Virology Laboratory at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center. His work with marrow transplants as well as the solid organ transplantation program led to a number of publications on the clinical manifestations of viral infections in immunocompromised patients.
He and his business partner Dr. Konstance Knox, established a biomedical research and certified viral diagnostic laboratory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At Coppe Laboratories, Dr. Carrigan chairs the Scientific Committee and lends his expertise to the viral testing research activities.
