Michelle Dezember currently serves as the Director of Learning and Engagement at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, a position held since April 2020. Prior to this role, Michelle was the Executive Director at Compound and served as the Chief Program Officer at the Aspen Art Museum, where oversight included education, curatorial, and editorial teams. Michelle's achievements include creating a successful engagement strategy that significantly increased program participation during a major museum transition, earning a National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2017. Prior experiences include key roles at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, where contributions involved co-curating a transnational artist residency project and establishing the Education Department, as well as educational positions at various prominent institutions including the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Michelle holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester, a Graduate Certificate in Visual Cultural Studies from Universitat de Barcelona, and dual Bachelor's degrees in Art History and Sociology from Santa Clara University.
