Tanmaya Lal is a seasoned diplomat currently serving as Secretary (West) and Ambassador to Sweden and Latvia at the Ministry of External Affairs in India since December 2020. Previously held the position of High Commissioner at the High Commission of India in Mauritius from January 2019 to December 2020, and served as Ambassador DPR at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations from 2016 to 2019. Tanmaya Lal's extensive career includes roles such as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Deputy High Commissioner in Kenya, Somalia, and Eritrea, and Deputy Chief of Mission in Thailand, among others. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering, both obtained from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, from 1982 to 1987.
