Kim Balls has a strong background in software development and research and development in the insurance and financial services industry. They began their career as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario before joining Brigham Young University as a Visiting Assistant Professor. They then transitioned to the corporate world, working as an Associate Actuary at LifeUSA and later as an AVP of Product Development at Allianz Life Insurance Co. of N.A. They continued to advance their career, becoming the VP of Research and Development at DFA Capital Management Inc. and eventually serving as the Director of Risk Solutions Software Development at Conning. Overall, Kim Balls has over 30 years of experience in various roles within the academic and corporate sectors.

Kim Balls has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Brigham Young University, which was obtained between 1976 and 1982. From 1982 to 1987, they pursued a Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business. Finally, from 1987 to 1988, they served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Economic Demography at the University of Chicago.
