Perry Aasness has a diverse work background spanning over several decades. Perry started their career as a farmer at Aasness Farms in 1984. After working on the farm for more than a decade, Perry transitioned into politics and government roles, starting as a Staff Assistant for U.S. Senator Rod Grams in 1995. Perry then moved on to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, where they served as an Assistant Commissioner from 1997 to 2003. Perry briefly worked as the Executive Director of the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association in 2003 before returning to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture as the Deputy Commissioner in 2004. Perry later held a role as the State Executive Director for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Minnesota from 2007 to 2009. Perry then joined the National Pork Board as the Vice President of Producer and Industry Relations from 2009 to 2011. Perry went on to become the Executive Director of the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation from 2011 to 2013 and then the Executive Director for the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council from 2013 to 2018. Currently, Perry serves as the Vice President of Legislative Affairs for Compeer Financial, where they have been since September 2018.
Perry Aasness has a strong educational background in agricultural economics and political science. Perry obtained an Associate Degree in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University from 1982 to 1984. Later, they pursued their Bachelor of Science degree in the same field as well as Political Science from the University of Minnesota during 1992 to 1994. Perry continued their education at the University of Minnesota again, enrolling in the Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs from 2001 to 2002, where they obtained a Policy Fellow degree.
