Steve’s career has covered nearly 30 years of inspiring national thought leaders to speak on behalf of children in poverty.
Steve first came to Compassion in 1994 as the West Region manager of volunteers. Two years into his work, Steve helped develop and build a strategy for Compassion for event-based marketing through partnership with churches, artists, speakers and live Christian events. As a member at a large church in Salem, Oregon, he brought in Rich Mullins to give a concert at the end of their “missions week” where over 100 children were sponsored. Thus began his passion for uniting the local church with the needs of children living in poverty around the world.
Steve has been responsible for oversight of the Artist team, the new church initiative program and event volunteer program. He also helped launch the marketing development of the Survival program and the AIDS Initiative. Steve spent the last 15 years leading the Artist and Influencer area — tripling acquisition growth in the Artist channel.
In 2021, he was named the new vice president of church and influencer partnerships. Steve has been a leader at Compassion of highly productive and healthy teams, known for launching future leaders within Compassion. His work has led to Compassion’s being a leading name in the Christian and Gospel music industry. The teams Steve has led in his time at Compassion cared for over 650,000 children.
Steve and his wife live in Vancouver, Washington. They have three daughters who are all married, and also live in the Pacific Northwest. Steve is passionate about ministry in his local church, playing bass and running sound on Sundays, as well as serving as elder chairman and an advocate for Compassion. Steve enjoys backpacking, skiing with his family, biking and reading. He also has a passion for cooking a good meal for friends who come to visit.
