David McKenna has a diverse work experience in the facilities management field. David currently holds the position of Facilities Manager at Carevide, where they began their tenure in August 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Executive Director of Operations at Texas A&M University-San Antonio from August 2020 to October 2021.
Before their role at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, David worked at BE&K Building Group as the QA/QC Superintendent I (Architectural/Structural) from July 2018 to April 2020. In this role, they oversaw architectural and structural quality control issues at the site of a new Nursing/Health Sciences building on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce.
David gained extensive experience in facilities management as the Director of Facilities Management at SSC-Compass from April 2013 to June 2018. This position was a part of an outsourcing initiative by The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS), where all facilities staff/operations were separated from TAMUS and made a part of SSC-Compass Group. David successfully navigated the process challenges and collaborative issues that arose from this change.
Prior to their role at SSC-Compass, David served as the Assistant Vice President for Facilities & Support Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce. David took on this role in November 2002 and held it until April 2013. In this position, they were responsible for the day-to-day management of multiple campus operations, including facilities, food services, the university police department, contract oversight, risk management & safety, audit responses, real estate, and print/copy operations. David managed annual operating budgets exceeding $18M and oversaw building projects of over $100M. Their staff consisted of over 170 full-time employees.
David began their career at the Texas Engineering Extension Service, where they served as the Director of Communications from March 1994 to November 2002. Their responsibilities included supervising the development, design, printing, and distribution of all TEEX materials, as well as managing the warehouse operation.
With their extensive experience in facilities management and their knowledge of various aspects of campus operations, David McKenna has a strong foundation for their current role as a Facilities Manager and has contributed significantly to the organizations they have worked for.
David McKenna attended Texas A&M University from 1973 to 1976, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, History, and Biology. In 1972, they briefly attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL), studying English Language and Literature. The following year, in 1971, they attended Oklahoma State University for General Studies. In 2012, David McKenna completed the Governor's Executive Development Program, for which they received a Certificate of Completion from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
