Michael Matson joined Community Catalyst in 2019 as a Program and Policy Coordinator. He provides direct assistance to the Director of Strategic Policy, the Deputy Director, and members of the Federal Team. As of September 2020, he also supports the Advancing Racial Justice and Equity Project as a Program Associate.
Prior to joining Community Catalyst, Michael worked in direct services to help people from historically marginalized communities navigate the health care system. He began his career in rural New York at a syringe exchange program, where he provided public health education and organized overdose prevention training for people who inject drugs. He went on to work in Boston at Fenway Health Center, helping LGBTQ+ patients engage in HIV-related care while addressing social determinants of health. This professional experience was built upon his undergraduate studies, internships at community-based organizations, and part-time work with nonprofit organizations.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology degree from the State University of New York College at Oneonta, with a focus on cultural psychology and human sexuality.
