Liisa Moilanen P. has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Liisa Moilanen currently serves as the Director of Curriculum & Instruction at CommonLit since 2022. Prior to this, they have worked as a Consultant and Owner of Liisa Moilanen Potts, Consultant since 2005, providing consulting services for private and public SEA/LEA systems. Their responsibilities included employee induction programs, leadership and system visions, grants management, technology integration, and system improvements.
Liisa Moilanen also held the position of Teacher Consultant and leadership member at Puget Sound Writing Project/ Washington Writing Project from 2005 to 2024. In this role, they provided literacy professional development to schools, worked on state-scale supports for teachers, and collaborated with colleagues on literacy teaching practices. Liisa Moilanen also worked with the National Writing Project team on literacy implementations.
From 2021 to 2022, Liisa served as the Director of School Support at Achievement Network (ANet), where they were responsible for supporting schools in achieving their goals. At EdReports.org, from 2015 to 2021, they served as the inaugural Director of English Language Arts Review, developing and implementing the original methodology for the national English language arts review process.
Liisa Moilanen has also worked as an Adjunct Instructor at Green River Community College from 2006 to 2016, and as the Director of English Language Arts & Professional Learning Integration at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2011 to 2015. Additionally, they have experience as a District, School Instruction, and Leadership Consultant at multiple school districts and OSPI from 2006 to 2011.
In their early career, Liisa worked as a Teacher Consultant at California Writing Project from 1997 to 2005, serving various districts. Prior to that, they worked at Pacifica High School/ Garden Grove USD as a Teacher, District ELA Mentor, and Coach from 1995 to 2005.
Liisa Moilanen P. is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education - EdD degree in Organizational Leadership at Vanderbilt University from 2021 to 2024. Liisa has a Master of Arts (MA) degree in English Education from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English from the University of Washington. In addition to their academic qualifications, Liisa has obtained a Principal and Program Administrator Certification from City University. Liisa Moilanen also holds a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, earned in 2021.
