Brian Heseung Kim has extensive work experience in data analysis, research, and education. Brian Heseung is currently working as a Senior Data Scientist in the Data Analytics and Research Team at Common App. Previously, they worked as a Researcher/Doctoral Student at the University of Virginia, Curry School of Education from August 2017 to May 2022. In this role, they led data analyses on various projects related to college access, success, advising, natural language processing, predictive analytics, and machine learning. Brian Heseung also developed research partnerships and effectively communicated findings to collaborators and partner organizations.

Brian also served as a Data Science Fellow at DonorsChoose from August 2020 to March 2021, where they contributed to the Data Science and Analytics Team. Brian Heseung has experience in designing accessible data visualizations for K-12 statistics and conducting statistical analysis on student-level restricted data. Brian Heseung interned at the Virginia Department of Education in 2019, collaborating with researchers to create data visualizations and conducting research on equity metrics.

Prior to their roles in data analysis and research, Brian worked as an English Teacher and Freshman Team Leader at Yarmouth High School from August 2014 to August 2017. Brian Heseung also served as an instructor for \"Probability and Game Theory\" at Johns Hopkins University, Center for Talented Youth from June 2015 to August 2016. From 2017 to 2019, Brian attended the University of Virginia Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, where they obtained a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education Policy at the University of Virginia, which they completed in 2022.
