Paul Bannon is a partner in the Disputes and Investigations team and started his career as a construction lawyer. He has worked extensively for contractors in civil engineering and construction disputes and for principals on large commercial construction ventures.
Paul's area of expertise is acting for construction industry consultants, particularly architects and engineers instructed by their professional indemnity insurers. These cases have ranged from large industrial and commercial projects to domestic dwellings. He has also acted for numerous other professions, instructed by their PI insurers. Paul also acts in relation to directors' and officers' liability and construction risk insurance. He has been involved in policy drafting, particularly in relation to home warranty insurance and professional indemnity policies.
Paul has advised as defence and coverage counsel in shareholder class actions.
Paul is listed in the 2014-15, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions of Best Lawyers in Australia in the field of insurance law and product liability litigation. In the 2020 and 2021 editions, Paul is listed for personal injury litigation and professional malpractice litigation.
Paul was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1982. He is admitted to practice in the Supreme Courts of NSW, VIC and ACT, Federal Court and High Court of Australia. Paul joined Colin Biggers & Paisley in 1982 and became a partner in 1988.
Paul is a member of Australian Insurance Law Association and Australian Professional Indemnity Group.
