Dana Anderson is the Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer at ColdQuanta and a Professor of Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder. Dana is an expert in experimental applied physics and is currently engaged in experiments to develop atom-based inertial sensors as well as quantum signal processing based on atomtronic circuits (ultra cold atom analogs of electronics, but operating in a wholly quantum domain). Dana has a strong interest in analog neural networks system with a history of contributions to holographic based systems and now directed toward atom-based quantum systems.
Anderson began their career as a Fellow at JILA where they spent 37 years researching and developing innovative solutions in optical science and engineering. In 2007, they co-founded ColdQuanta, Inc., where they served as CEO until 2019. Under their leadership, the company developed products based on laser-cooled atoms (including ions) for a spectrum of quantum applications including timekeeping, inertial sensing, quantum communications, quantum networks and quantum computing.
Anderson has been recognized for their work with numerous awards and honors, including being named a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. Dana was also the recipient of the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive from President Barack Obama in 2016.
Dana Anderson attended the University of Arizona for their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics with a specialty in quantum optics from 1975 to 1981. Dana was involved in experimental and theoretical research on optical ring gyroscopes during their time at the university and also worked at Litton Guidance and Control Systems, now Northrop-Grumman Mission Systems. Anderson also went to Cornell University for their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering.
