David Ehlert has extensive work experience in science storytelling and medical illustration. David co-founded and currently serves as the Executive Director of Science Storytelling at Cognition since August 2022. David previously held the role of Co-Founder/Director of Science Storytelling at Cognition from August 2001 to October 2022. Prior to Cognition, they worked at UW Creative as a Certified Medical Illustrator from June 1998 to December 2009. In this role, they collaborated with various teams to create visual content for articles, journals, websites, atlases, and patient education materials, primarily focusing on biomedical subjects.
David Ehlert has a diverse and extensive educational background. In 1993, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree at Illinois State University, majoring in Drawing and minoring in Human Biology. Following this, they continued their education at the University of Illinois Chicago from 1995 to 1997, where they obtained a Master of Arts in Medical Science (MAMS) with a specialization in Biomedical Visualization, focusing on science storytelling.
In recent years, David has continued their education to broaden their skillset. In 2021, they attended the Yale School of Management for executive education, completing the Business Perspectives for Creative Leaders program. The following year, in 2022, they further enhanced their expertise by completing a certificate program in Negotiation Strategies at the prestigious Yale School of Management.
Alongside their formal education, David has obtained additional certifications to validate their expertise. In 2004, they became a Certified Medical Illustrator through the Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators. David also recently earned a certification in Negotiation Strategies from the Yale School of Management Executive Education in November 2022.
