Karen Browning

Director of Children’s Programs at COALFIELD COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP INC

Karen’s current position with the agency is Director of Children’s Programs with the Head Start Program. Karen Browning has been employed with Coalfield CAP, Inc., coordinating early childhood services for 3-4 year old children, since November 1983. She has worked in a variety of capacities with the Head Start Program that include: Classroom Teacher; Parent Involvement Coordinator; Education Specialist; Family Services Coordinator and Head Start Director. She has also worked with the Energy Express/Summer Food Service Program that provides literacy activities for children during the summer months as well as nutritionally sound meals.

Karen attended Berea College (Berea, KY), where she attained a Bachelor’s Associate degree in English, with focus coursework in Child Development, and subsequently earned a Master’s of Education in Counseling and Human Development degree from Lindsey Wilson College (Columbia, KY). She has earned a Child Development Specialist Certification (CDS), an LPCA (Licensed Professional Counseling Associate) and an NCC (National Certified Counselor) with the National Board of Certified Counselors. Karen’s community involvement includes being a member of the Rotary Club of Matewan; Boy Scouts of America Troop 3 Committee Member; and serving on the Board of Directors for the Matewan Historic Society, Depot Replica Museum and Magnolia Fair Board.
