Dakota O'Dell

Lead Software Engineer at Closed Loop

Dakota O'Dell has extensive work experience in the field of software engineering. They started their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Notre Dame in 2007 before moving on to Cornell University, where they worked as a Research Assistant. At Cornell, Dakota focused on photonics applications and low-cost optical diagnostics for global health, completing their work in 2016.

In 2016, Dakota became the CTO of VitaScan, a company developing a portable diagnostic platform for nutrition monitoring. During their time at VitaScan, Dakota led the development of biochemical assays and an optical biosensing platform, as well as conducted pilot clinical studies and prepared FDA submissions.

In 2019, Dakota joined Wellframe as a Software Engineer, eventually working their way up to the roles of Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead, and Senior Software Engineer II, Tech Lead. At Wellframe, Dakota led a full-stack scrum team to build web applications for healthcare content creation and delivery. Their work involved using various technologies such as React, TypeScript, Java, and Python.

After their time at Wellframe, Dakota worked as a Staff Software Engineer at Cityblock Health before joining Alteryx as a Lead Software Engineer in 2022. They then moved on to ClosedLoop in 2023, where they currently hold the position of Lead Software Engineer.

Dakota O'Dell obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Physics from the University of Notre Dame from 2007 to 2011. Afterward, from 2011 to 2016, Dakota pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Applied Physics from Cornell University.
