James Barber has extensive experience in the financial services and healthcare technology sectors. Currently serving as an initial investor, advisor, and consultant at Clearstep since 2018, James contributes to a leading digital self-triage healthcare solution. Prior to this, James was CEO & President of Union Plus Mortgage Company from 2016 to 2022, where responsibilities included the development of a mortgage brokerage for labor union members. As Senior Managing Director at Strategic Risk Associates (2015-2016), James focused on advising banks within the regulatory framework and enhancing mortgage banking operations. Previous roles include Senior Advisor at Treliant Risk Advisors (2014-2015), Chief Operating Officer at Stifel Bank & Trust (2013-2014), and leadership positions at Acacia Federal Savings Bank, where James held the roles of Chairman and CEO (2008-2013) and Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer (2000-2007). James holds an MBA in Finance from The George Washington University and a BS in Economics from Tulane University.
