John Matthew Lane has worked in a number of roles since 2015. In 2015, they began working as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Liebherr Maritime Cranes. In 2017, they worked as an Intern at Decoded, a Seasonaire at Highlife, and as a Founder of Traynr.ie at TCD LaunchBox. In 2018, they began working as a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Limerick. In 2021, they are currently working as a Calibration Engineer at ClearSpace, where they are working on calibration of LIDAR and infrared camera for Clearspace One spacecraft using Python language for image processing.

John Matthew Lane attended Brookfield College from 2011 to 2012 and earned their Leaving Certificate. From 2013 to 2017, they attended Trinity College Dublin and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering. John Matthew then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Space Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, which they are currently completing.
