Dennis Van de Laar, SPHR has a diverse and extensive work experience. Dennis started their career as an Administrative Intern at Southern Illinois Airport in 2007, and later worked as a Graduate Assistant at Southern Illinois University in 2009. From 2008 to 2010, they served as a Graduate Assistant at Southern Illinois Airport. In 2010, they joined the National Air Transportation Association as a Manager of Regulatory Affairs. In 2012, they became a City Management/HR/Finance Fellow at the City of Royal Oak. Dennis further progressed within the organization and took on the role of Human Resources Specialist from 2013 to 2017. Currently, they are working as the Human Resources Director at the City of Royal Oak, MI, overseeing the operations and providing assistance to employees, retirees, and the general public.

Dennis Van de Laar, SPHR, obtained a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2009. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management (Bs.) from the same institution from 2004 to 2007. In 2001 and 2002, Dennis received a Cambridge University certification for English (CPE) at Vancouver, BC. Additionally, they hold a Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) certification from the HR Certification Institute - HRCI.
