David Green

Communications Director at City of Grand Rapids

David Green is currently the Communications Director at the City of Grand Rapids. Prior to that, they worked as the Media Relations Manager for the City of Austin from March 2015 to December 2020. In their role as Media Relations Manager, David was responsible for managing a team responsible for media facilitation, organizational information strategy coordination, corporate social media management, and executive training & development. David was also the designated lead Public Information Officer in crisis situations and advised on communications/marketing strategy around several high-profile projects.

During their time with the City of Austin, David was selected for a temporary assignment to the City of Austin Intergovernmental Relations Office for the 2017 Texas Legislative Session where they assisted in tracking and reviewing legislation, researching issues and recommending changes, developing and executing strategy, preparing witnesses for testimony, and interfacing with lobbyists and elected officials.

Some of the high-profile projects David advised on communications/marketing strategy around include the Annual City Budget, CodeNEXT Land Development Code Rewrite, Waller Creek Tunnel Project, Austin FC MLS Soccer Stadium, and Reimaging Public Safety.

David has also served as the primary point of contact for communications issues related to corporate activities such as Budget, Human Resources, and Law.

David Green has a Master of Arts in Human Dimensions of Organizations from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as an Integrated Emergency Management Course from FEMA Emergency Management Institute. David also has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, General from Thomas Edison State University. Additionally, they have an Information Operations Fundamentals Course in Information Operations planning from 1st Information Operations Command (LAND), and a Senior Leader's Course in Public Affairs from the Public Affairs Noncommissioned Officer Academy. David is also a certified instructor, having completed the Instructor Training Course from the Defense Information School. David has also completed the Advanced Leader's Course in Public Affairs from the Public Affairs Noncommissioned Officer Academy, as well as the Antiterrorism Level II course in Anti-terrorism from the United States Air Force. Lastly, they have an Intermediate Electronic Journalism Course from the Defense Information School, and a Leadership Development Course from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy.

They work with Evette Pittman - Special Events Supervisor, Stacy Stout - Director of Equity and Engagement, and Karyn Ferrick - Government and Legislative Affairs Officer. Their manager is Doug Matthews, Assistant City Manager/Chief Administrative Officer. Amanda Moore - Digital Content Specialist, Travis Scott - Cable Office Manager, and Steve Guitar - Media Relations Manager report to David Green.
