Jamie Leggatt began their work experience in 1999 as a Marketing Manager at InterLogic Engineering. They then worked as a Marketing Manager at TLC Laser Eye Centers from 2000 to 2001. In 2001, they joined the International Network on Personal Meaning as a Web Content Developer and Managing Editor. From 2002 to 2006, Jamie worked as a Freelance Reporter for Surrey Now Newspaper. In 2000, they started their own business, JL Creative Writing Solutions, where they worked as a Freelance Writer and Reporter until 2009. In 2010, Jamie joined the City of White Rock as a Communications Officer and worked there until 2013. Since 2013, Jamie has been working at the City of Chilliwack, first as a Communications Manager and currently as the Director of Communications.

Jamie Leggatt has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Trinity Western University, which was obtained from 1995 to 1999. They also completed a Certificate in Applied Leadership from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, within an unspecified start year and until 2015. Jamie further pursued education in Local Government Administration, earning a Certificate from Capilano University between 2012 and 2021. They then took a Certificate program in Dialogue and Civic Engagement at Simon Fraser University, spanning from 2016 to 2017. Most recently, Jamie attended the University of Saskatchewan from 2023 to 2025, where they obtained a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree.
