Stig Brautaset has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Stig began their career as a Submarine Sonar Operator in the Royal Norwegian Navy from August 1999 to July 2000. Stig then worked as an Assistant Tutor at the University of Westminster from September 2001 to January 2002.

Afterwards, Stig joined Knowledge Technology Solutions as a Software Developer from June 2003 to December 2004. Stig played a key role in improving the performance of the system by writing PHP code to access trades spread across multiple MySQL shards. Stig also introduced the team to revision control and automated the release procedure.

From January 2005 to December 2007, Stig worked as a Software Developer at Fotango. During their tenure, they maintained Canon Image Gateway's legacy picture server and reduced the code base size by 15 percent. Stig also contributed to the development of a server-side JavaScript web application development environment.

In 2008, Stig joined Morgan Stanley as an Associate Software Developer. Stig overhauled numerous reports and batch jobs interacting with Sybase databases, making the code more robust. Stig also developed a tool to create and update custom index tickers and their compositions.

From 2012 to 2015, Stig worked at NET-A-PORTER GROUP LTD. Stig held multiple roles including Data Architect/Mobile Developer, API Architect, and Tech Lead. Stig designed a new product API and caching strategy, chaired the API Working Group, and worked towards API and mobile-first development.

Stig joined LaterPay GmbH in July 2015 as a Systems Architect. Stig implemented various improvements to the system, such as log rotation, reduced out-of-hours alerts, and enabled the system to self-heal. Stig also migrated the primary application and its data stores to AWS in phases to minimize risk.

Since September 2019, Stig has been working at CircleCI as a Staff Software Engineer.

From the years 2000 to 2003, Stig attended the University of Westminster, where they obtained a First Class (Hons) degree in Artifical Intelligence.

Prior to their university studies, Stig attended Sofienberg Tekniske Fagskole from 1997 to 1999. There, they earned a degree in Electronics and Computing and received a grade of 5.7 out of 6.

Before their time at Sofienberg Tekniske Fagskole, Stig attended Nørve Videregående Skole from 1995 to 1997. Here, they obtained a Craft Certificate in Electronics Servicemen with a focus on Audio and Image Systems.

Stig's education journey began at Ørsta Vidaregåande Skule in 1994, where they completed an Electronics Foundation Course.

Additionally, Stig has obtained a certification in Functional Programming Principles in Scala from Coursera. Stig completed this certification in November 2012.
