Jim Hanchett is an experienced communications professional with a diverse background in higher education and broadcasting. Currently serving as the Chief Communications Officer at Christopher Newport University since July 2023, Hanchett previously held the position of Assistant Dean of Communications at Cornell University from January 2022 to July 2023, where public policy was a focus. Hanchett also served as Chief Communications Officer at Christopher Newport University from October 2018 to January 2022, leading marketing and external relations. Earlier roles include Director of Marketing and Communications at Indiana University, where efforts led to significant recognition for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and key positions in television news, including News Director at Gray Television and Correspondent for NBC News Channel. Hanchett holds a BA in Journalism and Urban Planning from Boston University.
