Marlen Garcia is an experienced journalist and editor currently serving as an Editorial Board Member at the Chicago Sun-Times since July 2023. Previously, Marlen held various roles including Adjunct Journalism Professor at Columbia College Chicago, where guidance was provided to students in publishing their work, and Editor at Block Club Chicago NFP, overseeing reporters. At the Chicago Sun-Times, Marlen worked for nearly a decade in multiple capacities, including Deputy Managing Editor for breaking news, contributing columns and editorials on legislative issues and immigration, and managing project endorsements for elections. Marlen's earlier career includes reporting for USA Today, covering men's college basketball and the Olympics, as well as reporting for the Chicago Tribune on significant sports events. Marlen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Illinois State University.
