Michael Simpson has a diverse work experience in the field of energy and engineering. Michael started their career as a Year in Industry Student at Shell, where they conducted research on automated quality assurance methods for aviation fuels handling. Michael then worked as an Undergraduate Summer Placement at Woodford Engineering Consultancy, focusing on fuel system modeling and assisting with ongoing investigations.

Following that, Simpson joined Rolls-Royce as a Systems Engineering Intern, where they developed monitoring software and collaborated with a US partner for flight testing support. Michael later interned as a Performance Engineering Intern at Rolls-Royce, working on a major US-UK project and completing safety-critical stability assessments. Michael then became a Graduate Engineer at Rolls-Royce, specializing in gas turbine vibration and balancing and developing a simulation tool for low-vibration engine build.

Simpson then transitioned to TetraFloat Ltd as a Development Engineer, focusing on the design, development, and commercialization of a novel floating support structure for offshore wind turbines. At the University of Nottingham, they worked as a Research Fellow in Energy Storage, collaborating with various academic institutions to produce technology-neutral metrics for evaluating energy storage solutions.

Simpson pursued a PhD at Imperial College London, where they worked on increasing the efficiency of positive displacement expanders for clean energy technologies like Organic Rankine Cycle engines and compressed air energy storage. Currently, they are serving as the Chief Commercial and Product Officer at Cheesecake Energy Ltd, where they are responsible for bringing low-cost energy storage solutions to the market for various applications, including electric vehicle charging, solar plus storage, and resiliency. Michael previously served as the CEO and Co-Founder of the company.
