Willem Olding

R&d Program Lead at ChainSafe Systems

Willem Olding has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Willem worked at ChainSafe Systems as an R&D Program Lead since May 2023. Prior to that, they were a Solutions Engineer and Rust Developer at ChainSafe Systems from January 2021 to May 2023. Willem also worked as a Software Engineer and Protocol Designer at RAIR Technologies Inc. from August 2020 to November 2020, where they were involved in the research, design, and development of a Proof of Concept implementation for a distributed media streaming and digital ownership protocol. Willem was a Rust Developer at Orion Protocol from July 2020 to October 2020, where they worked on an experimental port of Ethereum smart contracts to Rust for the Elrond blockchain. At RedGrid, they served as the Lead Developer and DWeb Consultant from February 2020 to October 2020, where they developed the primary Node.js service for aggregating data feeds and managing device control. Additionally, they worked as a Lecturer (Remote Teaching) at the University of Tasmania in May and June 2020. From August 2018 to February 2020, they were a Rust Developer at Holo.Host, focusing on the open-source Holochain protocol and developing distributed applications. Willem also worked as a PHD Candidate at the University of Tasmania from February 2014 to November 2019, where they conducted research on satellite imagery and received a grant to present their work at an international symposium. Moreover, they briefly served as a University Lecturer at University of Tasmania from July 2017 to October 2017, teaching a 4th-year engineering course. Willem Olding also worked as a Visiting Lecturer at Shandong University of Science and Technology from May 2015 to June 2017, teaching digital communication systems. Lastly, they were an Undergraduate Engineer at Aurora Energy from November 2012 to January 2013, where they developed a prototype web application using ASP.NET, C#, and Oracle SQL for fault ticket management.

Willem Olding completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Tasmania between 2014 and 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E. Hons) in Computer Systems from the same university, completing it between 2010 and 2013. In addition to their degrees, they received certifications including Blueprint Management Training from Raw Signal Group in 2021, Ethereum Blockchain Developer from Udemy in 2017, and Data Analyst Nanodegree from Udacity in 2014.
