Richard Thoms

Director - Corporate Development at CFD Research Corporation

Richard Thoms has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies. Richard firstly worked at CFD Research Corporation from 1996 to 2008, where they held various roles including Manager of Customer Support and later Manager of Emerging Energy Technologies. During this time, they were responsible for business development, research, and commercialization of alternative/renewable energy projects. Richard also served as Deputy Program Manager for CFDRC's AMCOM Xpress task order contract and played a significant role in program coordination and customer reporting. Thoms was also the Director of Corporate Development for CFD Research Corporation, where they collaborated with colleagues to create strategies and secure opportunities for advancing technology and product development in diverse markets.

From 2004 to 2008, Thoms worked at ESI Group as the Global Product Manager for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Richard was responsible for developing and maintaining a commercial CFD product roadmap, defining market requirements, managing software releases, and representing the CFD product line at trade shows and conferences. Additionally, they designed and implemented a CFD specific web portal for customers.

In 2012, Thoms joined SynVivo, Inc as the Director of Product Management. SynVivo is a spin-out from CFD Research Corporation focused on microfluidic cell-based assay technology in drug development and personalized medicine.

Overall, Thoms has demonstrated expertise in business development, technology commercialization, product management, and customer support across multiple industries, including aerospace, energy, materials sciences, life sciences, and data sciences.

Richard Thoms earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University between the years 1984 and 1989. Richard then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee Space Institute from 1994 to 1996.
