Antje Petersen Schmalnauer has a diverse work experience, starting as a Visiting Assistant Professor of German at Indiana University Bloomington in 1985. Antje later transitioned to North Central College as an Assistant Professor of German in 1988. Moving into the legal field, they became an Associate at Ice Miller LLP in 1993 and eventually rose to the role of Partner. Their career then led their to roles at Biomet, where they served as EMEA General Counsel and later as Global Chief Compliance Officer. Antje continued their legal career at Kautex Textron as Interim Vice President Legal and General Counsel. Prior to their current position at CeramTec – The Ceramic Experts, they were the Group General Counsel at Sonova Group. Antje now holds the titles of General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at CeramTec.
Antje Petersen Schmalnauer completed their Zwischenpruefung (approx. equivalent of a BA) in German, English, and Scandinavian Studies at The University of Bonn in 1981. Antje then pursued a Master's Degree in German Studies at Stanford University from 1981 to 1983. Antje continued their education at Stanford University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Germanic Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics from 1983 to 1985. Antje went on to Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where they obtained a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from 1989 to 1992. Antje also obtained an LL.M. in International Law and German Law from Heidelberg University in 1993, and studied International Law at the E. Lauterpacht Center at the University of Cambridge in 1992. In addition, they pursued studies in English Language and Literature/Letters and Scandinavian Studies at University of East Anglia in 1980.
