Andreas Merkl has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Andreas co-founded Centigrade in 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Principal at NatureFinance from August 2019 to September 2021, where they focused on reshaping businesses and economies for nature-positive outcomes. From 2013 to 2018, Andreas served as CEO and then President of Ocean Conservancy, leading efforts to address ocean challenges with science-based solutions. Andreas was also a Principal at California Environmental Associates for 15 years, advising environmental foundations, NGOs, and multi-lateral organizations. In addition, they held positions at ClimateWorks Foundation, McKinsey & Company, CH2M HILL, INC., and the City Planning Department of San Francisco. Andreas played a significant role in consulting, directing teams, and managing environmental initiatives in their various roles.
Andreas Merkl has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies, with an emphasis on Natural History, from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Andreas then pursued a Master of City and Regional Planning degree at the University of California, Berkeley, with an emphasis on natural resource analysis and cartography. Later, they earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with honors from Harvard Business School.
