Derek is a microbiologist with an extensive background in environmental science. He studied and worked as a freshwater ecologist before being engulfed by the world of microbiology, and his PhD research spanned both realms by focusing on antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in Scottish wildlife. His previous roles include water sampler and scientist for Scottish Water and QC scientist at a medical device company.
