Matt Donovan has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Matt began their career in the US Navy as a Damage Controlman in August 1993 and served in that role until August 2013. After leaving the Navy, they joined Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa, Inc. in February 2017 as a Veteran Program Associate Manager, a position they held until December of the same year. In 2020, they joined CellSite Solutions, LLC as a Project Manager, and they are currently working in this role.

Matt Donovan received their high school diploma from Cascade High School in 1993. Matt then went on to earn an associate's degree in Business Specialist from Northeast Iowa Community College, which they completed in 2015. In 2016, they enrolled at the University of Dubuque and obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management, General in the following year. Matt continued their education at the University of Dubuque and received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 2018.
