Jennifer Layden currently serves as the Director of the Office of Public Health Data, Science, and Technology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since February 2023, and holds the role of Associate Deputy Director in the Public Health Science and Surveillance division since August 2020. Layden previously worked as the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer at the Chicago Department of Public Health for a brief period in 2020, and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2016 to 2020. Earlier in the career, Layden was the Chief Medical Officer and State Epidemiologist for the Illinois Department of Public Health and held an academic position as an Assistant Professor of Public Health and Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and an MD from the University of Illinois Chicago, complemented by a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Professional from the University of Notre Dame.
