Mike Maurer is Vice President of Manufacturing of Castle Creek Biosciences, Inc. Recognized as a skillful and proven leader in manufacturing, he brings more than 30 years of experience spanning the biopharma, vaccine, and cell & gene therapy industries.
Mr. Maurer spent most of his career at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Merck. His experience with GSK includes mAb manufacturing, recombinant protein production, Cell & Gene Therapy manufacturing, and CDMO work. Mr. Maurer’s most recent leadership position at GSK was serving as Vice President and Site Head for the company’s flagship biopharma manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania. At Merck, Mr. Maurer came up through the ranks and progressed from supervisor to Director with increasing oversight and leadership responsibilities for vaccine manufacturing across a wide variety of products and production platforms. More recently, he worked with both Medicago and Emergent BioSolutions to advance their vaccine commercial manufacturing capabilities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Maurer has been integral in the design, build, and start-up of multiple new or renovated facilities. These builds ranged from very large-scale, stainless steel-based facilities to disposable single-use-based facilities.
Mr. Maurer started his career at SmithKline & French as a large-scale process development scientist. He graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Molecular Bioscience & Biotechnology and later earned his M.S. in Biotechnology from Lehigh University.
