Erika Joyce Espeland has extensive work experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Erika Joyce currently serves as the Director of Geographic Information Systems at Cass County, Michigan Government since May 2021. Prior to this role, they worked for Berrien County for twelve years as the GIS Coordinator and Web Administrator. Before that, they were a GIS Technician at Midland County for a year. Erika also has experience in academia, having served as a GIS Lab Instructor Assistantship and conducted GIS student research at Central Michigan University from 2006 to 2009. Erika Joyce'sresearch involved the development of methodologies for creating 3D perspective views and contour digitization using GIS techniques and Remote Sensing satellite images.
Erika Joyce Espeland has a Master's degree in Geographic Information Science from Central Michigan University, which was obtained from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geographic Information Science and Cartography & Anthropology at the same university from 2003 to 2007. In 2005, they studied abroad at the University of Ghana, focusing on Regional Development, Geographic Information Science, and Anthropology. Additionally, they attended a field school at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2005, focusing on GIS & Archeology. Erika has also obtained various certifications in fields such as drone operation, leadership, and GIS management.
