Dr Rael Futerman has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Dr Rael co-founded CARTEDO in 2019 and currently serves as the Chief Learning Officer. In 2021, they became an Advisory Board Member for Teachers Without Borders and a Mentor for adplist.org. Dr Rael also holds the position of Head Teacher at iXperience starting from November 2021. From 2016 to 2020, Dr Futerman worked as the Programme Manager for the d-school at UCT, where they managed the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design Thinking. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, including Coordinator for the Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability (DESIS) Lab and Lecturer. Dr Rael also served as the Curriculum Officer and Program Leader for Industrial Design. In 2006 and 2007, Dr Futerman worked as a Centre for Innovation Technical Assistant at The Craft + Design Institute (CDI).

Dr. Rael Futerman obtained a DTech (Doctorate of Technology) degree in Design from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, graduating in 2016. Prior to that, they earned an MTech degree in Design from the same institution, completing it in 2007. In 2005, they completed their undergraduate studies and received a BTech degree in Industrial Design from CPUT.
In addition to their formal education, Dr. Futerman has obtained several certifications. In September 2020, they completed the "Adobe Captivate Essential Training" course offered by LinkedIn. In April 2020, they obtained certifications in "Design Thinking: Data Intelligence" and "Enterprise Design Thinking Co-Creator," both through LinkedIn. Dr Rael also achieved certifications in "Enterprise Design Thinking Practitioner" and "Enterprise Design Thinking - Team Essentials for AI" from IBM in April and March 2020, respectively. In May 2019, they completed the "Guy Kawasaki on Entrepreneurship" course on LinkedIn. Furthermore, in April 2019, they completed the "SW47x: Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies" course offered by HarvardX - An Online Learning Initiative by Harvard University through edX. Finally, in February 2019, they achieved a certification in "Design Thinking: Venture Design" from LinkedIn.
