Stewart Patrick

Senior Fellow And Director, Global Order And Institutions Program at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Stewart Patrick has an extensive and diverse work experience in the field of international relations and global governance. Stewart is currently a Senior Fellow and Director of the Global Order and Institutions Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Fellow and Director of International Institutions and Global Governance at the Council on Foreign Relations for 14 years. Stewart also served as a Steering Committee Member at the Paris Peace Forum from 2018 to 2021. Earlier in their career, they held roles as a Fellow at the Center for Global Development, a Professional Staff Member at the U.S. Department of State, and an Associate at the NYU Center on International Cooperation. Stewart started their career as a Research Fellow at The Brookings Institution and also worked as a Guest Researcher at The Norwegian Nobel Institute.

Stewart Patrick completed their Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology, with Honors in Humanities, at Stanford University from 1983-1987. Stewart then pursued Masters Degrees in International Relations (M.Phil.) and Modern History (M.St.) at the University of Oxford from 1988-1991. Finally, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in International Relations from the University of Oxford from 1991-1996.
