Maria J. Barrero is a Principal Scientist at Instituto de Salud Carlos III since 2021, focusing on induced pluripotent cells and organoid models of rare diseases with an epigenetic basis. Previously, Maria contributed as a Senior Scientist at IMDEA Food Institute and served as Head of the Epigenetics Laboratory at CNIO from 2013 to 2019. Maria's early career included a Ramon y Cajal Researcher position at the Center for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona, studying epigenetics in human embryonic stem cells, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Rockefeller University, concentrating on chromatin and gene transcription. Maria holds a PhD in Biology and a Bachelor's degree in Biology, both from Universitat de Barcelona.
