Corporate Relationship & Community Engagement Manager at Capital Area United Way

Kate King is the current Corporate Relationship & Community Engagement Manager at Capital Area United Way. Prior to their current position, Kate worked as a Community Navigation Coordinator at Well-Ahead Louisiana from September 2016 to December 2020. In this role, Kate was responsible for planning, implementing, tracking and achieving grant strategies based on activities related to the Bureau's Well Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN) and Improving the Health of Americans Through Prevention and Management of Diabetes and Heart Disease and Stroke programs.

During their time at Well-Ahead Louisiana, Kate developed strategic partnerships to create community clinical linkages designed to increase the number of at-risk Louisiana residents with a medical home and/or primary care provider. Kate also increased the number of community-based blood pressure monitoring programs throughout the state that provided screening, education and referral to a partnering health system able to treat uncontrolled hypertension and hyperlipidemia. In addition, Kate implemented an electronic data collection system that transferred blood pressure readings, taken at Louisiana Department of Health Region four (4) barber shops, to a partnering health system for clinical support follow-up for participants who submitted prehypertensive and hypertensive blood pressure readings.

Kate also created guidance documents and procedures to assist community-based organizations with developing chronic disease prevention programs (specific to hypertension and hyperlipidemia). Kate wrote Memorandums of Understanding and/or Memorandums of Agreement to define partner responsibilities pertaining to expected program outcomes. In addition, Kate provided regular detailed progress reporting of work plan activities and strategies based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting requirements. Lastly, they coordinated statewide community health worker (CHW) efforts and initiatives in partnership with the Louisiana Community Health Outreach Network (LACHON) to expand and empower the state's CHW network, increase communication between the state's active CHWs, and promote training opportunities available to CHW (specific to chronic disease prevention and identified core competencies).

Kate King holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a Bachelor of Arts in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Kate also holds a Master of Public Health from LSU Shreveport. Kate is certified in CITI Good Clinical Practice Course, CITI Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) for Clinical Investigators, Conflict of Interest, Biomedical Research - Basic/Refresher, and Undue Foreign Influence: Risks and Mitigations from the CITI Program, A Division of BRANY.
