Tomas Scullion

Head of Actuarial Development at Canada Life Reinsurance

Tomas Scullion has a diverse and extensive work experience in the actuarial field. Tomas most recently served as the Head of Actuarial Development at Canada Life Reinsurance starting in 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Reporting and Modelling Actuary at SCOR from 2020 to 2020.

From 2018 to 2020, Tomas worked at Utmost PanEurope as the Head of Actuarial Function. In this role, they were responsible for various tasks such as overseeing the Actuarial function and compliance with regulatory requirements, calculating Solvency II Technical Provisions and SCR, reporting solvency position to the Board of Directors, and providing regular Management Information to the Executive Management team.

Before joining Utmost PanEurope, Tomas held the position of Head of Actuarial Function at Generali PanEurope from 2017 to 2018. Here, they had similar responsibilities as in their previous role, including compliance with regulatory requirements, calculating Solvency II Technical Provisions and SCR, reporting solvency position to the Board of Directors, and providing regular Management Information to the Executive Management team.

Tomas worked at Aviva as a Financial Reporting Actuary from 2007 to 2010, where they managed a team and handled tasks related to IFRS and embedded value reporting, as well as communicating results to senior management and board members.

Tomas began their career at Royal London in 2001, initially assisting in the implementation of their Prophet model within the Model Office area. Tomas later worked in the Royal London International area, where they gained experience in financial reporting, development and testing of illustration systems, and providing customer quotations.

Throughout their career, Tomas has demonstrated strong skills in Solvency II reporting, building important relationships with executives and stakeholders, providing training, and offering advice on pricing and profitability.

Tomas Scullion completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Queen's University from 1996-1999. Following this, they pursued a Diploma in Actuarial Science from Heriot-Watt University from 1999-2000.
