Tom Charlesworth

Director, Market Strategy And Corporate Development at Cambridge Epigenetix

Tom Charlesworth has held a variety of roles in the biotech and healthcare sectors since 2008. In 2008, they were a PhD Student at the University of Cambridge, where they studied F-ATPases from fungal mitochondria, resulting in posters at international symposia and a peer reviewed publication. In 2013, they became an Account Executive at Remedica Medical Education and Publishing, where they project managed the development of events, websites and materials for large multinational pharmaceutical and medical device clients. In 2015, they took on the role of Grants Adviser at the Wellcome Trust, where they managed diligence on all technology transfer and planetary health funding schemes. In 2016, they returned to the University of Cambridge as a Contracts Specialist, where they drafted and negotiated hundreds of MTAs, CDAs, DTAs, Collaboration Agreements, and Funding Agreements for the clinical school. In 2017, they moved to Cambridge Enterprise as a Senior Associate, where they designed and implemented a strategy to grow the business unit responsible for commercialisation of reagents and software arising from University of Cambridge research. Finally, in 2018, they joined Cambridge Epigenetix as Director - Portfolio Strategy, Strategic Portfolio Manager, and Contracts and IP Manager. In their role as Director Business Development, they managed IP, licensing, manufacturing, contracts, collaborations and competitive intelligence, and was a key team member for a $88M Series D fundraise.

Tom Charlesworth has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, which they obtained in 2013. Before that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol in 2008.
