Justin Woodjack joined CALSTART in 2022 as a Technical Project Manager II in the Validation and Assessment Team. He aims to design and engineer data driven solutions to accelerate discovery and dissemination of insights allowing for faster deployment of zero emission technology. His versatile data science, full-stack development, and management skills are applied across several projects at CALSTART including CARB’s Advance Clean Trucks (ACT) Tracker, Joint Electric Truck Scaling Initiative (JETSI), designing smart briefs for the Hybrid and Zero Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), and Route Energy Models (REM) for transit agencies. He is also working on a solution to modernize CALSTART’s data infrastructure leveraging machine learning and cloud architecture.
Prior to joining CALSTART, Justin Woodjack worked six years at the Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center at UC Davis, where he collaborated with government and industry to advance the market for zero emission vehicles. After which, he founded two sustainability companies, developed patents, programmed multiple full-stack apps, engineered remote sensing drones, and most recently worked on machine-vision AI systems to enhance sustainable farming analytics.
Justin Woodjack holds a BS in Earth Science from UC Santa Cruz where he first began climate modeling. Inspired by climate science, he followed up with a MS in Transportation Technology & Policy from UC Davis developing electric vehicle infrastructure optimization geospatial models and built web apps for new car buyers comparing annual fuel costs for vehicles based on their driving patterns.
