Mikel S. serves as the Science Communications and Content Manager at the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST), a position held since November 2016, where Mikel leads the development of strategic content to advance CCST's initiatives and provides comprehensive communications support. Prior experience includes roles as a CCST Fellow/Consultant with the California State Senate's Transportation and Housing Committee, and fellowships with the Genetic Expert News Service and The CLEAR Project, enhancing skills in science communication and policy engagement. Mikel earned a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from UC Berkeley, focusing on plant-pathogen interactions, while also contributing as a graduate student instructor in microbiology and genetics. Educational credentials include a B.A. in Biological Chemistry from Grinnell College.
