Mauricio Velásquez has extensive work experience in the field of environmental management and sustainability. Mauricio started their career as a Coordinator of Research and Development Projects at the Galapagos National Park in Ecuador. During this time, they were responsible for reviewing and analyzing scientific projects, coordinating with multilateral organizations, and developing various initiatives for the park. Mauricio then moved on to work as a Subsecretary of Natural Capital at the Ministry of Environment in Ecuador. In 2004, they became the Director of Environment at the Municipality of Guayaquil. Mauricio joined the CAF - Development Bank of Latin America in 2008, where they held two executive positions. Mauricio was the Principal Executive of the Green Business Unit and the Principal Executive of Environment and Climate Change. In these roles, they led the implementation of the corporation's environmental strategy in Ecuador and other countries in the region. Mauricio also coordinated regional programs for environmental and social management in financial institutions. Additionally, Mauricio worked as the Responsible for the Evaluation of the Management Effectiveness of the Galapagos National Park in collaboration with AECID. Mauricio Velásquez has a diverse education history. In 1994, they graduated from the Universidad de Guayaquil with a degree in Biological and Environmental Sciences. In 2000, they completed a Master's degree in Environmental Science and Forest Biology from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Mauricio also pursued further education, obtaining a Chevening Fellowship in Democracy and Environmental Governance from the University of Wolverhampton. Additionally, they specialized in Investment and Financial Markets through a program at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Most recently, in 2023, Mauricio attended the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and earned a certificate in Climate Adaptation Finance.
