Dave Matheu

Principal Engineer at Cabot

Dave Matheu has a diverse work experience in engineering and research roles. Dave started their career as a Research Engineer at Cabot Corporation in 2005, where they designed and executed projects to produce fumed silicas at an industrial scale. Dave also played a critical role in the design and construction of pilot-scale reactors and developed process safety systems. In 2008, they were promoted to the position of Senior Research Engineer, where they led the development of new process burner equipment and implemented field techniques to evaluate burner combustion performance. Dave also conducted experiments to improve the Cabot process through offgas recycle. In 2012, Dave became a Lead Engineer at Cabot Corporation and directed a computational fluid dynamics modeling effort. Dave also led a team in solving a major scale-up problem, resulting in significant energy savings. Recently, in July 2021, they took on the role of Principal Engineer at Cabot Corporation. Prior to joining Cabot Corporation, Dave worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at NIST, where they developed a detailed model for carbon deposition precursor formation during high-conversion ethane pyrolysis. Overall, Dave Matheu has demonstrated expertise in process development, design, and research.

Dave Matheu pursued their education in Chemical Engineering, beginning in 1992 at Princeton University, where they obtained their Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree. Dave continued their academic journey at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1997 to 2002. At MIT, Dave earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice (MSCEP) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering.
